The author happens upon two men tying a young, blond woman to a spit while their families watch. The unfortunate woman was reluctant to face the camera as it would have required her to look in the direction of  the fire pit (located behind the camera).  The author was relieved when the young woman did finally, after much coaxing, face the camera because the red hot coals were beginning to make him somewhat uncomfortable, even at a distance of several feet.  The double set of ropes around the knees are commonly used because a frantic woman when initially placed on to cook can generate forces with her legs at least two to three times her own body weight.  No chances were being taken as every bit of meat from the rather petite woman would be required to adequately feed everyone.
