Two unclothed women, chased by several warriors, race toward the author’s expedition. Upon reaching the author’s party, they frantically explained that they had escaped from a nearby village as the inhabitants were preparing to cook and eat them. The author assured them that their assessment of the situation was probably accurate and that he understood their concern. He further explained that while it was true that his large, heavily armed party could certainly rescue them, his ethics forbid interfering in the activities of the local peoples. The warriors upon their arrival confirmed their intentions to roast the women alive and serve them that evening, whereupon, all parties traveled to the local village where preparations were soon resumed and the feast was held as planned.
