The original photo was taken during one of the author's lectures, circa 1970. The student in the picture pretends to be terrified as she, for extra credit, takes part in a demonstration of how to make long pig stew. Authentic island ingredients were brought into class, and pork was to be substituted for long pig. As all of the students sampled the stew the next day, conversation bounced between the unique flavor of the stew and the rumor that the coed had disappeared. Students from the cooking demonstration told police that they had seen the coed at various points around campus after class, but were unable to offer any further details. Police were never able to find a body or determine a motive. The class overwhelming felt the missing coed deserved an A for her contribution to the stew.
