A native woman lovingly lowers a screaming missionary’s daughter, who is destined to be today’s stew, into the pot to cook.
Sometime later, with the pot now close to a full boil, the photographer returned to take a series of pictures of the unfortunate lass. He found her with her wrists still bound, and her skin a dark red, damaged, and ready to peel off of her body.
Such photos are rare because, ordinarily, common decency
would prevent recording, much less, displaying such lurid scenes of human
suffering. The sequence of the photos is from left to right, moving
top to bottom.
