Two early lithographs depict the origins of the practice of eating women in the Titti Islands. A female missionary explains to the natives that it is wrong to eat men. The natives upon considering the woman's words can be seen to have changed their ways. Further contacts with the outside world have had other civilizing effects on the native culture. Today, it would be very rare for a woman to be consumed in the manner show above. At the present time, women are invariably cooked before being eaten.
